Light the World

Light the World has officially begun and I'm so excited! It is so much fun to be a missionary at Christmastime! People just seem a little more happy, willing to talk, and open to ya! And there isn't a better message than that of our savior Jesus Christ! So Monday night we headed over to the Edmond 45 sisters for exchanges and had a great time! The next morning though we got ready and sister Wilde got sick and we had to leave so she could throw up in the comfort of our own bathroom....Haha. yeah it wasn't pretty. So Tuesday I studied a lot, planned my training for interviews, cleaned, organized, studied some more and called everyone! I've gotta say it was pretty productive. But at the end of it I was pretty antsy to get out of the apartment and see humans again!

Wednesday we had a good day. Got to see some people we hadn't been able to for a while. We also had a lesson with a guy named Tom and boy was it interesting! He has some very strong views and beliefs but he cant deny that the spirit is telling him to go to church and read the book of Mormon. I guess we will see where that leads him!

We had a cool moment this week with our investigator Trudi. She was having  a hard time with death. She believed that God doesn't want us to die, and that death is a consequence of sin. Well although sometimes it is, we explained to her that death is part of the plan and then read 2 nephi 2. Then she had a moment where it all just clicked. It was wonderful to watch. She realized how much sense it made and just kept saying that she knew it all along, she had just forgotten! It was sweet!

One of the highlights for the week was a family in the ward had out investigator Lavaughn and his fiance Victoria over for dessert along with us. (Dont worry Dad, I just ate an orange) well there, a bunch of really awesome things happened. Lavaughn told us he wants to get baptized, Victoria started crying because she is so happy that they finally found a church home (yes our church), we got to teach her about the restoration, and she asked if they both needed to get baptized! It was awesome and some great member fellowship was going on! We are so excited for them!

Friday we went back to Edmond 45 to finish our exchange and funny story...so a lot of people out here have the video camera door bells that you can talk through (they are the worst for missionaries...so awkward) anyways we just embrace the awkward and go for it. Well we found a house with a really funny sign about no soliciting and since we aren't solicitors, we rang the video doorbell. Well nobody answered, so we turned around to take a selfie with the sign. Mid selfie, we hear, "what can I do for you ladies?" We were dying but really trying to hold it together. The lady was not happy and didn't respond when we told her about the light the world. Dont worry, we left a card on her door! Haha.

I wish I could tell you about all the amazing things that happen but I simply dont have the time or the motivation! Haha. Just know that this work is true! It's amazing who God puts in our path. As we were watching the Christmas devotional last night, during elder Stevenson's talk (which was bomb) I just kept thinking about how our hearts change and our spiritual heart condition. What condition are our hearts in? Have our hearts and natures been changed through the atonement of Jesus Christ? This week I have really loved the scripture 3 nephi 9:13 ..."will ye not know return unto me, and repent of your sins, and be converted l, that I may heal you?" As we change and are converted we allow ourselves to be healed by Christ. They happen simultaneously. We constantly need to be working our hearts so that they stay soft and "broken" and that our spirits remain contrite. What a better way to that than light the world!

Love,
Sister Gentry
