Bon voyage Sister Weldon!
That's right y'all, sister Weldon is going home. Of course it's always bitter sweet. She is a wonderful missionary and I have been so blessed to have her as my companion. I am looking forward to this next transfer though and my new comp! Her name is Sister Wilde. I dont know her at all! I think she has been out 4.5 months. It's going to be awesome!
This week we had exchanges with the Edmond 45 sisters. It was a lot of fun to go to their area. I was with sister Jenkins and it was cool to see how heavenly father confirmed that we were In the right place at the right time. There were so many little things that just put us in the right spot. One of the coolest was we stopped at this park and started talking to this lady sitting in a bench. We started talking to her about her sweatshirt from Alaska and then it turned into her asking us how we do what we do everyday. She has been trying to reach out more herself and testify of Christ when she can but she doesn't know how. We were able to share about the restoration and the book of Mormon and she started reading it as soon as we walked away! It was awesome!
Another amazing miracle back in our own area, we met with Jane, and she faintly said that she knows she needs to get baptized. We got as far as looking at a calendar for a date, but didn't set the day yet. It was really cool to see how everything has just lined up for her and she can't deny that God has been telling her this is what she needs to do the whole time! We again were able to meet with her last night and we read Alma 36. She ate it up and it the spirit was so strong. I LOVE the book of Mormon!
On Saturday we got to go to a baptism for the UCO ward. The person being baptized Micah, bore his testimony at the end and it was so powerful. I love seeing and hearing about how people's lives are changed by the gospel and how Gods plan is so perfect. It made me very grateful to be apart of this wonderful work and strengthened my testimony!
Updates on some people!
Olivia, our 12 year old investigator is still doing great. She is on track to be baptized and is just a ray of sunshine! We are so excited for her!
April: mom of 4 boys. We taught her the restoration and she just ate it up. She is super busy but is really trying to make time for us to come and teach her and her family more about the book of mormon and the blessings it brings to our lives.
Frank: a Methodist guy who has met with missionaries in the past. He loves his religion but is having a hard time because the church is splitting three ways in February and he doesn't think that is right!! Hopefully we are going back to teach him this week!
Lavaughn: I think I told y'all about him last week, but he is doing good and we haven't been able to see him since because he went out of town, but we are scheduled to meet with him on Tuesday! We are so excited to see him again. He has been reading the book of Mormon and has lots of questions!
Well those are just a few, sorry I am bad at giving detailed emails. It's hard to be motivated to write sometimes! Haha. but I want to share something i studied this week that i loved. It's from Elder Christofferson's talk from conference "Firm and Steadfast in the Faith of Christ." It says,
"To persevere firm and steadfast in the faith of Christ requires that the gospel of Jesus Christ penetrate one’s heart and soul, meaning that the gospel becomes not just one of many influences in a person’s life but the defining focus of his or her life and character."
I know this to be true. And you can tell the difference in the people who do this and allow the gospel to be that focus and center of their lives. This process of conversion happens as we dedicate our time to reading the book of Mormon and treasuring up the words of Christ. By striving everyday to become closer to our Savior. Its make a conscious effort to become disciples of Jesus Christ. I know that as we all strive do this, we will be blessed and our lives will become more fulfilling and full of joy and purpose. God is waiting to pour out the blessings of heaven upon us. A quote from president Benson, "We love what we sacrifice for, and we sacrifice for what we love." I hope you all know that I love this gospel and my savior Jesus Christ and I would be willing to sacrifice all for him, who has already sacrificed all for us.
Love, Sister Gentry
