60 to 19 degrees...YAY!
Hey yall!
This week has been full of change and excitement and hard work. First off we woke up this morning to snow. Like half an inch or so...That was weird. It only snowed once last winter. And its freezing! yay. haha. Wednesday we sent sister Weldon back to Arizona along with some other really great mission friends I've made out here. And then I picked up sister Wilde! She is awesome! She just came from broken arrow (a different ward from where I served) and this is her second area. She is from Brigham city Utah and lived right across the street from Maddoxs, that really yummy restaurant by the canyon! She is so sweet and we are having a great time together. And we hit the ground running! Right after transfers we went to visit a book of Mormon referrals named Shams Din. He is from Pakistan and loves to read, so when he saw the ad on the computer for the BOM he ordered one. It was kinda funny because when we got there they sat us down and brought out all this food and were making us eat Haha. His daughter wanted to make us tea so bad and we kept trying to tell her that we don't drink I tea. Anyways, he is excited to read the book of Mormon, but we don't know if it will go anywhere. He is very Muslim. But they were like the nicest people ever and it was really cool to learn more about their beliefs and customs.
So now that we can both have bikes, we decided to hit it hard on Thursday biking around. Satan must have known because it was sooo freezing and misty rained all day! But we were able to meet some cool people and did some service for a lady who was really sick. (We did a mountain of dishes but it was awesome!!) And we also were able to introduce Sister Wilde to a lot of the members.
It's been really cool, as we have been trying more and more to focus on the members and build trust and relationships with them, we are seeing that more of them are giving us referrals. In the past week we have has two members tell us to knock on their neighbors doors who might be interested!
We had a lesson with a guy named Lavaughn this week and he is so amazing. So he was a member referral from another ward. And the whole reason he first got interested in the church was because he saw the difference in the family of the members that he knew. He noticed the difference and wanted to know what it was. (Sorry if I already told yall that) Anyways, we got to go back and teach him the plan of salvation and he just ate it up. It's always my favorite when you see the wheels spinning in their head and it starts to make sense to them. It just confirms my testimony that we all were taught this plan in the pre earth life, and that we are just reminding them of this wonderful eternal truth! He also was amazed at the promise in the introduction, that we can receive our own witness of the truth of the BOM if we pray and ask God!
Brenda is doing good as well. We got to teach her again and it was funny because she lost her glasses, but she knew that we told her to read and so she found a magnifying glass and tediously read that way! We had a great lesson on the gospel of Jesus Christ. She had some bad experiences in the past so she is kinda scared to come to church but she is praying about it and I know she will be there soon!
I think one of the coolest lessons this week was with Jane. We were talking to her about authority and how we are the only church with that power and she is just having such a hard time with it because she feels as if she's almost been deceived her whole life because she hasn't known the truth. And then she was feeling really sad for all of those that still don't know and might not get to hear it on earth. I got to testify of the missionary work her and on the other side in the spirit world and the work that will go on in the millennium and it was testimony building, that's for sure. I was overwhelmed with emotion as the power and perfectness of Gods plan ran through my mind. Everyone will have a chance, and this message is the most glorious one there is ever to hear. And I get to share it with people. I feel so blessed and am very grateful for it all. Words cannot Express that I feel and as Ammon said, I am filled with inexpressible joy! And I know this joy isn't something temporary, but a feeling that will last because of Jesus Christ and his atonement for us!
The church is true!!
Love, sister Gentry
Good Bye Sister Weldon
