BBQ or Bust!
Thats it. Im officially obsessed with BBQ and all things grilled and I live off of BBQ sauce. Its fine.
This week was good. The highlight was definitely the ward Grill off with a focus on Missionary work that sister Bash and I planned. We had 6 people smoke or grill meat for the contest and boy was it delicious. All yall need to learn how to grill!! People here are serious about their meat and BBQ sauce. Its as important as football here. (which is pretty dang important. People will pause their lives if the game is on!) hahaha. Anyways it was awesome because a family in our ward, their grandparents have this huge cabin house thing and its beautiful. Ill send pictures dont worry.
So its been getting darker earlier and not gonna lie, we had some scary biking experiences in the dark. I mean we have lights and stuff but the streets arent lit and lets just say our investigator Steve thinks we are going to get hit by a car. We did get to ride in the back of Bro. Georges truck though one night because he wouldnt let us bike home in the dark and we couldnt ride in the car with him without another woman. that was pretty fun.
And Transfers....I am in fact getting transferred on Wednesday! I am going to Owasso to the Ranch Creek ward (which is like 25 ish minutes away from where I am) and my new companions name is sister Woolner, who is a spanish missionary and apparently plays soccer! I have no idea who she is but im pumped to meet her! So dont send me any mail until next week when I get yall the knew address.
The members have been keeping us updated a little bit on the hurricanes and natural disasters going on. It makes me feel a little guilty because the weather here has been super nice. Like not very humid and just beautiful. Its been great biking weather. Especially since our car miles got cut in half. We only bike now :)
Steve is really sad that I am leaving. He took us out to lunch to a place called Mom's Diner. (its so dang good) He said that he would throw himself off an overpass (jokingly) and cry, if one of us had to leave. But its okay. I am going to try and get permission from president to go to his baptism on the 23. Im close enough that I might be able to.
This week otherwise was kinda slow. Sister Bash was on an anti biotic that said she couldnt be in sunlight. Haha. so all the while she was feeling like death, we didnt even know why until like 2 days later when I read the side effects of the medicine. So lets just say this week ive done a lot of studying, a lot of working out (my calves are sore from insanity, Its awesome!) and a lot of playing doctor to sis Bash haha.
So I also was called on to speak in sacrament meeting. I was super excited because I love the ward, I love speaking in church and I got to speak on THE JOY of living the gospel and keeping the commandments. JOY is why I came out on my mission and Im super passionate about it for those of you who dont know me. haha. Anyways afterwards Bro Updike the seminary teacher asked if I would come and teach seminary on tuesday about what I talked on in church. It was sweet and Im so excited to teach!
The gospel is amazing and when you live it, it brings you so much joy. There was a quote that said something along the lines of "The joy we get in our life has nothing to do with the circumstances of our lives, but everything to do with the focus of our lives." Focus on JESUS CHRIST and when you look to him and NOT to the world, therein lies the true and eternal joy we all are seeking. I love that. I love sharing that and changing peoples lives. Change someones life today!
Love, Sister Gentry
